Promoting the appreciation and conservation of central Pennsylvania's natural landscapes

Picture
Jennifer Shuey is the Director of Development for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, where she raises the money to produce the community's annual Arts Festival in downtown State College and the adjoining University Park campus of The Pennsylvania State University.  In her job, she also raises the money for First Night State College and coordinates the Arts Festival's annual Images juried fine art exhibition that is open to Pennsylvania's 2D artists and is displayed throughout the month of July

Prior to that she served nearly fifteen years as Executive Director of ClearWater Conservancy of Central Pennsylvania.  Jennifer is a native of Centre County, Pennsylvania. She holds a B.S. of Landscape Architecture from the Pennsylvania State University and is committed to using her time and talents to make her community a better place.  She is particularly interested in conserving the beautiful natural landscapes of central Pennsylvania and engaging more people in the protection of land and water resources through the arts.

Jennifer's journey into the local arts community started with an oil painting class at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.  Later at an artists' retreat at Hameau Farm, Jennifer borrowed some pastels, experimented with the medium, and fell in love with its ability to quickly capture the beauty and character of nature.  Pastels are vibrant and spontaneous, and working with them gives Jennifer an almost meditative creative outlet that is a good balance with her professional life.

Jennifer is a Signature Member of the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society and served five years on the Board of the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.  She is on the Bellefonte Art Museum's Artist Registry and is a juried member of the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania.

Recent exhibitions that have included Jennifer's work have been found at the Art Alliance in Lemont, the Kish Bank Expect More Store in State College, the Green Drake Gallery in Millheim, the Bellefonte Art Museum, the Art Alliance Downtown Gallery in State College, Mount Nittany Medical Center, Otto's Pub & Brewery, the State College Framing Company & Gallery, the State Theatre, the Betsy Rodgers Allen Gallery at Schlow Centre Region Library, The Station Gallery in Lock Haven, Webster's Cafe and Bookstore, Cafe Lemont, and the HUB Robeson Center at Penn State University.

Jennifer believes in giving back to community benefit organizations.  She has donated art to many cherished causes including:  ClearWater Conservancy, the Centre County Farmland Trust, Millbrook Marsh Nature Center, Mount Nittany Conservancy, the Centre County Youth Service Bureau, the Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County, the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Penn State Cooperative Extension, Penn State's Palmer Museum of Art, and WPSU.

Jennifer serves as the Board President of the Centre County Farmland Trust and on the Board of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.  She is also a Trustee of the Hamer Foundation.

Jennifer lives in Pleasant Gap with her husband Chris and their two cats, Hammie and Moe.
